Public Health, Prevention, and Emergency Preparedness and Response
AHIP and its member companies are involved in wide-ranging activities that support public health and disease prevention. Guided by Chief Medical Officers, and other senior staff, health insurance plans prioritize, design and implement a variety of programs, initiatives and collaborations that support preventive health and help insure the public's health. Since 1996 AHIP's Disease Prevention and Public Health Work Group has been a focal point for sharing models that work and exchanging information on preventive health services and emerging public health issues. -

Recognizing the importance of understanding cultural differences and their impact on accessing appropriate health care services, AHIP's work aims to increase awareness of the influence of race, ethnicity, and primary language on health outcomes; collaborate with other stakeholders to develop tools and resources for evidence-based research and practice; and develop effective strategies that help contribute to reducing inequity across the health care system.
